The #1 reason we went for this train set is because it was made in Vermont from sustainably harvested hardwoods. The economic, political, and environmental benefits of buying something made domestically tipped the scales for us--we were willing to pay more for this set versus getting more "stuff" for the dollar with other train sets. Maple Landmark is heirloom quality and I feel that many generations of children will use and enjoy this set. It is much beloved by our son, and I feel very certain that we made the right choice, especially since we tested out a wide array of sets before we landed on this one (e.g., Thomas, Kidcraft, etc.).
The nice thing about this particular configuration is that it has everything you need for it to feel complete. It had a big wow factor on Christmas morning, and all the adults around are impressed with all that it came with. There is a really nice selection of vehicles, including a boat, an airplane, a race car, a tow truck, and an ambulance...
