Review : Not Perfect, But A Terrific Replica
This diecast metal replica of the Monkeemobile is a very nice representation of one of the two original cars as it exists today. There are some inaccuracies when compared to the actual cars as seen on the Monkees T.V. series, but considering the currently restored conditions of the original vehicles, this is not totally unexpected.
There were two Monkeemobiles created for the show, one of which was primarily used for promotions and traveled around the country and parts of the world. This was the vehicle upon which this model is based. When the Monkees toured Australia, the car was shipped with them, and unbelievably, it was left behind. Since the series was over by this time, apparently the studio did not care enough to track it down. Through some incredible series of events, the car ended up in Puerto Rico, where it was being used as a hotel courtesy car! It was purchased for a modest sum by a private collector who had restoration work done on it.
